Here are some useful facts about the Marlborough Sounds that can help you on your trip to the region this summer.
Maritime Park: The Marlborough Sounds Maritime Park comprises many of the sounds and is in fact a group of reserves interspersed with private land holdings.
Privately Owned Land: The Queen Charlotte Walkway passes through a number of privately owned properties, which you are allowed to traverse by permission of the owners. As this is a priviledge, we ask that all trampers treat this right of access with the required respect and care.
Sea Kayaking: There are a number of sea kayaking tour companies in Picton for arranging Marlborough Sounds kayaking adventures.
Hunting and Fishing: Permits are required for hunting and fishing in the Marlborough Sounds.
Camping Grounds: There are camping grounds available on the Marlborough Sounds, some of which are fully serviced. Check with the visitor centre.
Ferry Service: The Interislander ferry service provides a shuttle service between Picton and Wellington. The Lynx runs a similar service.
Train: The Coastal Pacific train runs from Christchurch to Picton through Kaikoura and Blenheim.
